Life Skills Program Facilitator (1 F/T)

Job Summary:

Provide services to youth aged 16-24 who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, and provide assistance in attaining and maintain stable housing.  This includes prioritizing case management and planning for tenants living in the Mellard Avenue Apartments.

Cyrus Centre is a faith-based ministry of walking alongside youth with the mission of “showing the love of God to youth and families.”  Mellard Avenue Apartments is a program of Cyrus Centre that provides supportive housing to vulnerable youth aged 16-24 who require wrap-around supports.  Mellard Avenue Apartments exist to provide stable housing for vulnerable youth in Chilliwack and develop a foundation for their future success.

Reports to:  Cyrus Centre Housing Manager
Hours: Monday to Friday; 40 hours per week (evenings/weekends as necessary)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide ongoing life skill development to residents of Mellard Apartments by meeting regularly with residents to work on their identified Individualized Service Plan and life skills goals (this includes but is not limited to budgeting, cooking, cleaning, developing health relationships, mental health, and physical health)
  • Develop and facilitate a life skills program for vulnerable youth that promotes stable and independent living, positive well-being, and quality relationships directed to youth in community who are living on their own or are preparing to live on their own
  • Identify appropriate social, economic, recreational, educational, and spiritual services in the community that will meet youths’ needs
  • Procure potential training, education, and employment opportunities for tenants
  • Facilitate appropriate group learning environments that promote a culture of community amongst the residents of the Mellard Avenue Apartment
  • Collaborate and communicate with Program Support Workers
  • Maintain necessary client information and program stats
  • Meet regularly with the Case Managers
  • Other duties as required
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to teach and train youth and young adults basic life skills
  • Interpersonal skills that allow you to work effectively with diverse individuals in a variety of capacities
  • Knowledge of youth issues and youth services within Chilliwack
  • Good organization and time management skills
  • The ability to function independently and under pressure

A diploma or bachelor’s degree in a human service (or related) field or the equivalent experience.  Previous work in a similar environment is required. Experience of direct program delivery to vulnerable youth with a demonstrated working knowledge of barriers for this population is essential.  Additionally, Emergency First Aid and Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training is an asset.

This position requires the successful completion of a criminal record check and a valid class 5 driver’s license.
