February 24, 2018 boasted once again another successful Coldest Night of the Year Walk. With nearly 300 walkers between Abbotsford and Chilliwack we were able to raise $60,000 for our Youth Emergency Housing Program! Thank you to everyone who participated and volunteered, helping make this our most successful Coldest Night of the Year ever! We would not be able to offer 24 hour supports and emergency housing to homeless and vulnerable youth in the Fraser Valley if it was not for the support of the outstanding communities that we work with.
Special Thank you to Hub International for the water bottles, West Oaks Starbucks, Salish Plaza Starbucks, and Bourquin McDonald’s for the donation of coffee, SuperStore on Gladwin Rd. for the donation of Buns, Kintec for the hot chocolate and door prize in Chilliwack, and Prospera Credit Union in Chilliwack for the popcorn!
On February 24, 2018 we will be walking with thousands of people in 125 cities across Canada to raise awareness and support for the homeless, hungry and hurting youth in our community. Coldest Night of the Year is a 5km walk that raises support for local charities. In Abbotsford and Chilliwack, funds raised through CNOY go to providing youth in the Fraser Valley with access to emergency housing through Cyrus Centre’s Youth Emergency Housing Program. The walk takes place in the evening to highlight the conditions youth experience living on the streets in Canada every night. There’s lots of hot chocolate and coffee along the way and dinner provided after. Registering is simple! Go to www.cnoy.org/abbotsford OR www.cnoy.org/chilliwack and click register. The registration fee is $25 and will increase to $40 after February 19. HOWEVER, any walker that raises $150 gets their registration fee waived (And if you’re under the age of 18 you only need to fundraise $75 to get the free registration!). It’s cold out there, so let’s doing something about it. Join us on February 25th, 2017 as we walk for the homeless, hungry and hurting youth in our communities. The Coldest Night of the Year is a Nationwide walk-a-thon which raises funds for community organizations working with homeless and hurting individuals. The walks that take place in Chilliwack and Abbotsford raise money for Cyrus Centre. In 2017, Cyrus Centre Abbotsford hopes to add an additional 2 shelter beds and Cyrus Centre Chilliwack hopes to add an addition 4 shelter beds. In September and October of 2016, Cyrus Centre turned away over 30 youth from our shelter. We need more beds. But in order for us to expand our shelter, we need more funds. The Coldest Night of the Year poses an excellent opportunity to raise necessary funds and raise awareness for the homeless, hungry and hurting youth in our community. Our goal is to raise $20,000 in each location, to do that we need your help!
44% of homeless people in the City of Chilliwack are youth. 18% of homeless people in Abbotsford are youth. Cyrus Centre offers the ONLY emergency housing for youth under the age of 16 between the Okanagan and Metro Vancouver. We need more beds.
We invite you to sign up and walk with us. Go to www.cnoy.org to register as a walker, start a group, or donate. Registration for the walk is at 4pm and the walk starts at 5pm. For more information email firstname.lastname@example.org or checkout the CNOY website for full details.
We look forward to see you, and remember, it’s cold out there.
